Center for Health and Wellbeing Policies
- Participants must be 16 years of age or older to utilize the Fitness Center.
- Participants are required to re-rack all weights and return equipment to its appropriate location after use. Repeat violators may lose fitness center privileges.
- Please note that exposed skin can be at risk to disease exposure. Therefore, we encourage participants to clean fitness equipment before and after use and be mindful of exposed skin. Clothing that covers chest, nipples, groin and buttocks is strongly recommended.
- Closed-toe, full back, athletic shoes with non-marking soles are required in all informal physical activity spaces. Sandals, flip-flops, high heel, open-toed or open-heeled shoes are not allowed except during approved programs.
- Training in socks is allowed within the lifting racks section only. It’s strongly recommended that users wear Barefoot shoes or a comparable product that protects users from injury.

- During NCAA athletic team reserved time slots, equipment used by athletic teams is not permitted to be used by the public.
- Jewelry should not be worn or kept to a minimum to mitigate accidental entanglement.
- Personal belongings must be kept in a locker or cubby. Personal lockers and cubbies are available throughout the facility. Sonnentag staff is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- All users must wipe down equipment with gym wipe or towel after each use. Disinfectant spray with towels or gym wipes are located throughout the facility.
- Drinks are permitted in non-breakable, closed containers only. Notify staff immediately of spills to avoided damage and for cleaning. Food is prohibited.
- Personal music devices (cell phones, tablets, etc.) are prohibited unless used with headphones. Please follow all safety precautions posted on fitness equipment.
- Keep hands and feet clear of moving parts while using machines.
- Equipment must remain in the Fitness Center. Participants are prohibited from removing equipment and using it in other areas of the Sonnentag Center.
- Limit use of cardiovascular equipment to 30 minutes if others are waiting.
- During peak times, equipment (I.e. dumbbells, weights, benches, etc.) should not be monopolized for personal use. At any time, patrons may be asked to share with others.
- Collars are required on all free barbell lifts.
- Controlled dropping of weights is allowed on the lower level of the fitness center. No weight dropping is allowed on the 2nd floor.
- Improper use of equipment is prohibited. Improper use consists of but is not limited to standing on equipment, standing on weights, stacking weights under equipment and top loading equipment. Staff reserve the right to determine if a practice is unsafe.
- Weights are not to be leaned against walls, columns, other equipment, or mirrors.
- The use of chalk is allowed only in the lifting racks sections. Users are responsible for cleaning their own chalk. Loss of privileges may occur if areas are left uncleaned. Liquid Chalk is NOT allowed.
- Participants not familiar with the operation of the fitness equipment can ask for assistance from trained Sonnentag Staff.
- Outside personal training is strictly prohibited.
- Immediately report any weight room related injury or facility/equipment irregularity to staff.
Locker Rooms
1. General use locker rooms are open to all students and members using The Sonnentag Center.
2. Cell phone and tablet use of any kind is strictly prohibited.
3. All lockers are listed as "day-use" and available at no cost during hours of operation. Items occupying a day-use locker must be removed before closing. Items not removed at the end of the night will be put into The Sonnentag lost and found.
4. Children are not permitted in the locker room of the opposite gender. Individual changing rooms are available for child/parent needs.
